Madrid, February 2012.- diabetes is not a limitation in the practice of physical exercise, in fact its practice is one of the most effective ways to act against diabetes: prevent diabetes type 2 and improves control in diabetes type 1. Far from being a limitation or impediment, physical exercise is one of the pillars of the treatment of type 1 diabetes, this is why Diabetes Foundation promotes sports among persons with diabetes and organized the participation of Diatlétic in sporting events like the marathon Granollers Media which has hadplace on February 5, 2012.

45 Participants of this team have been coordinated by Jaume Picazos, a degree in physical education, national coach for athletics and patron of the Foundation for Diabetes, which turned to make a plan of training prior to the race, and coordinated the supplies during situation, as well as the need for hydration and have a blood glucose level the right of the runners who participated in the Diatlétic team.

Diabetes Foundation advised to take tighter control than usual, both before and during and after having run the half marathon. Jaume Picazos explains that before a physical test like this, people with diabetes should adopt stricter control, as own previous coaches have an impact in that they have to lower the dose of insulin and sometimes increase the contribution of carbohydrate at meals ”. On the initiative of the Foundation for Diabetes, DIATLÉTIC team was set up in February 2006. Its members, athletes with diabetes from different geographical areas of Spain are for:

-highlight that diabetes is not an impediment for a life like everyone else

-promote the practice of responsible sports among persons with diabetes since that date, DIATLETIC, sponsored by the Diabetes Foundation has participated in 17 marathons and 130 half marathonstotaling about 3,500 kilometres of race. So far no has been low by severe frequent or Ketoacidosis.
