San Salvador, 19 nov (EFE).-the Government Salvadoran has temporarily banned the import of pigs from Guatemala and all its derivatives, due to an outbreak of swine fever, classical in the neighboring country, said sources officers.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of agriculture and livestock (MAG) confirmed to Efe that since “last week it has banned the import of Guatemala from pigs because of an outbreak of swine fever” in that country.

Indicated that “the action was taken since the Guatemala was notified of the problem and to prevent an outbreak in the country”, although no specific day.

Meanwhile, the MAG, through a newsletter, pointed out that being given follow-up to farms in the past 45 days have been imported pigs from Guatemala to avoid that the plague spread to the country.

However, clarified that to date not have “detected signs of suspected cases of classical swine fever in investigations”.

The MAG invited all the pig producers to “enhance biosecurity measures” in this Central American country to avoid an outbreak of classical swine fever a disease restrictive to market the products of that kind.

The President of the Association Salvadoran of chirped (Asporc), Federico Fernandez, speaking to local media, said that “in El Salvador not there have been outbreaks of classical swine fever for more than four years”.

He added that a disease that only affects pigs, which did not spread to humans, nor other species is animals.

In Honduras since last Monday closed the border to pork from Guatemala for the same cause. EFE
