retirees worried about the delay in the payment of subsidies

General Assembly XLIII of UDP

Madrid, July 2012.- nearly 50 organizations of older people integrated the Democratic Union of pensioners and retirees of Spain (UDP), have gathered in San Lorenzo del Escorial, Madrid, on 19, 20 and 21 June at the XLIII General Assembly of the organization.

In the course of the Assembly, the organizations from all the autonomous communities have expressed their concern for the delay of all administrations to pay the subsidies.

Thus, the National President, Luis Martin Pindado, stated that the delay is causing substantial damage in the development of the activity of associations, which must meet commitments with different companies and workers services providers ”.

The problem is common to all associations, both which rely on funding from the Central Administration, such as which depend on regional funds or city councils and provincial councils ”, said Pindado, who expressed deeply concerned ” the situation of misinformation and delay in the payment of already granted subsidies which are suffering from the associations.

Every euro that is delivered to the associations is immediately destined payment of programs that develop, and many programs of care to adults with problems of loneliness or at risk of exclusion are affected by these delays in payment and lack of information to managers ”Pindado expressed;

On the other hand, managers of the various organizations of elders gathered in the Assembly XLIII expressed concern before the rumors of new cuts in pensions that are heard in various forums. Pensioners have lost much purchasing power, with freezing first, and then with the rise of the personal income tax and the payment of medicines. We are not willing to that choke our economies ” explained the President of UDP, who announced mobilizations to pensions are affected by further cuts.

The UDP is the first organization of the largest in the country, with more than 2,500 associations in all Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Uruguay and Peru, which bring together more than one million five hundred thousand members. For 35 years, it develops activities in defence of the interests of older persons and the promotion of active ageing.
