Enjoy, without excesses, parties of the community of Valencia.

Spain, March of 2013– comes the month of March and the Valencian Community shines at its best. Not only by the light flashing the gaiatas of Castellón and the irony and the flames of the spectacular failures of Valencia, but because residents and visitors enjoy its varied and rich gastronomy.

Paella is par excellence the emblem of the gastronomy of our region. Their combination and variety of ingredients make it comply with the characteristics of the Mediterranean diet: made from grains such as rice, fish or meat, vegetables, legumes (garrofón) and olive oil. The rice contains carbohydrate complexes, rabbit and chicken, they provide proteins of high biological value and low amounts of fat. The meat is also an important source of minerals such as iron and vitamins B3 and B12. And vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and fiber. If food is also completed with a salad variety, prepared with products from the Valencian orchard and we chose to end a fresh fruits such as orange, we get a full and balanced menu.

But if there is something noteworthy of the Valencian gastronomy during the festivities of la Magdalena and faults, they are churros and pumpkin fritters. To prepare them are fried in plenty of oil, resulting in an energy input of a 450Kcal / 100 g, so must compensate the intake of these foods if we do not want parties to pose a hopeless excess.

A healthy, if some have good perspective this holiday season, is allowing us to counteract the excesses. While we visited walk different faults, we are doing physical activity in a fun and entertaining way, every hour of walking you can assume an expenditure of a few 200kcal, and to compensate the Kcal in 100 g of fritters or churros, we would have to walk around two and a half hours. So you can enjoy these sweets, but choosing the days marked as a holiday in the calendar to consume them and not starting March 1.

Another of the basic tips to prevent abuses during the holidays, is to control the intake of alcohol, since 1 gram of alcohol pose 7kcal, this transformed into a beverage as Gin Tonic, it means a 300kcal energy equivalent to a small plate of paella, but without its nutritional quality, as in the case of empty caloriesi.e. without their complex carbohydrates, proteins, or vitamins, mineral or vegetable fiber.

In addition, this year will be a month full of festivities, since after the Magdalena and faults, the Easter arrives. And with it, the Valencians will enjoy other rich dishes: mona and Easter sausage ”.

The first, is a dessert made from sourdough and decorated with anisetes colors and a boiled egg (currently used also a chocolate egg), and in a lunch or snack, and provided that it is accompanied by physical activity, it can become an acceptable alternative. The second, is a sausage made with lean pork, elongated and low thickness consumed dry, and to which we will pay special attention, since 100 g of sausage of Easter provide between 250 and 400kcal, depending on their fat content, so we recommend you read the nutritional labeling of these products to avoid scares, and moderation in consumption.

From the official College of Dietitians and nutritionists of the Valencian Community (CODiNuCoVa) we advise you to avoid excesses. Take advantage of these dates for physical activity in a way different from the everyday. Visit of Castellón and Valencia parties walk away and make exits the field together family and friends during Passover.
