MADRID, 22 (EUROPA PRESS)

Four cups a day of coffee or the equivalent of 400 milligrams of caffeine increases the speed of response, the precision, and it makes the person to commit fewer mistakes, says Anne Adam, Professor of the Research Institute for brain, cognition and behaviour at the University of Barcelona, who says that their intake also prevents the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

The expert has made these statements after work, driven by the center of information coffee and health (cycles), consisting of the review of the most relevant scientific studies on this subject.

, Explained that caffeine helps to overcome the drowsiness and improve cognitive performance, especially when you are tired or have lack of sleep. In his words, the person who ingested this substance processed information better and improves their subjective mood. Ultimately, feels “more efficient, vigorous and motivated by the work”, accurate.

Nevertheless, recalls that to keep a “good state of alert,” it is “imperative” sleep the hours needed, “but when this break occurs, certain substances such as caffeine, they can help to improve the State of vigil provided when used responsibly”.

In this sense, ensures that 400 milligrams of caffeine is “a responsible dose that does not generate risks to health” and that its intake is indicated for premature apnea, sleepiness, fatigue and exhaustion.

Researcher emphasizes the antioxidant properties of caffeine “to neutralize free radicals” and that, therefore, act against ageing, pharynx and esophagus cancer and dementia. However, points out that this phenomenon occurs “If someone has a habit, but if you have the symptoms you will not obtain benefits”.

In contrast, Adam warns that a dose exceeding 400 milligrams is an “abusive quantity”, persons of risk, can cause tachycardia or insomnia, and worsens the quality of sleep and time.

Consumption is also contraindicated in pregnant women, may not exceed 360 milligrams of “that increases the risk of miscarriage”. Nor, in people who suffer from cardiovascular or gastrointestinal disturbances, insomnia, liver failure or anxiety disorders. Its intake is not recommended in children younger than 12 years old and older who suffer from kidney failure.

With sugar, better

on the other hand, Adam is recognized as the ideal combination of caffeine and glucose, so he recommended the ingestion of this substance with low doses of glucose – less of 25 grams – especially in young adults, that an excessive sugar intake predisposes to develop obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Furthermore, the intake of coffee means hydration added, “fundamental for the correct performance of the brain”, precise the expert. “In States of fatigue, a coffee containing caffeine as well as water can be a good alternative and an effective strategy to improve performance”, he argues.

Finally, this expert explains that, once produced the intake of caffeine, the 30 – 45 minutes this substance arrives in blood and there are reactions that usually last between three and six hours. Specifies further that its metabolization and expulsion varies depending on the age. “Older people takes more than the young”, concludes.
