Hospital Chiron Malaga opens an unit of menopause.

-menopause tends to be accompanied by disorders such as hot flashes, insomnia, loss of libido, sadness or urinary incontinence

-the new unit, in collaboration with the Oncology service, try also to women who become menopausal early cancer

Málaga, January 2012.- Hospital Chiron Malaga extends its service of Gynecology and obstetrics with the implementation underway of a new unit of menopause. This unit, led by Dr. Andrés Carlos López Díaz in collaboration with the DRA. Micaela Fernández Abellán and DRA. Jessica Martin Orlando, will attend to the demands of Malaga female population affected by disorders which sometimes generates this stage in the life of the woman.

According to Dr. López Díaz, the average age of life among women increases that the number of people who must live with menopause for years increase in. In the case of Málaga, the specialist indicated that over 30 per cent of malagueñas are in menopause today, a stage that is accompanied by hot flashes, insomnia, loss of libido, trend to the persisted anyway and sadness, incontinence urinary and more long term osteoporosis. As explained by the specialist these symptoms can be cured with new units of menopause from which we can adopt certain habits and treatments for the quality of life of women ”.

The unit also supports service of Cardiology, psychiatry, Endocrinology and Rheumatology of the hospital centre. Dr. Andrés Carlos López Díaz, makes special emphasis on osteoporosis and sore joints suffering from menopausal women. Thus, the unit has the possibility of consultation to other services involved in order to offer dietary recommendations to patients or tables of exercises to improve their quality of life.

As indicated by the specialist, after Gynecologic medical review – cytology and ultrasound – and with exploring it mamaría and cardiovascular to meet the metabolic profile of women, need to be a multidisciplinary work between various specialties in order to provide our menopausal patients full medical assistance ”.

Support to cancer patients

Cancer patients face many sequels during and after the treatment against the disease; among them, in the case of women, this comes to be menopausal even at an early age by the use of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Current cancer treatments make that many patients survive decades later that it is finished, so the later sequels and their effects on overall health and quality of life have become major concerns in our society.

In this sense, the new unit of menopause works closely with the Hospital Oncology service, led by Dr. Jose Antonio Ortega, in order to provide information and medical care as complete as possible for women with this disorder.
