Spain, December of 2011- the Spanish society of plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic (SECPRE), in relation to the case of the mammary prosthesis PIP (POLY IMPLANTS PROTHÈSES) recalls that:

-In March 2010, the Spanish Agency of medicines and health products, belonging to the Ministry of health and Social policy, issued a circular in which pointed out that had been informed by the French health authorities, through the monitoring system of health products, the suspension of the placing on the market, distribution, export and use of mammary prostheses of POLY IMPLANT silicone gel, manufactured by the French company POLY IMPLANT PROTHESE ”.

– Well, it was reported that these prosthesis had been distributed in Spain through the Spanish subsidiary of that company, POLY IMPLANT Spain, which ceased its activities in December 2009 ”. Therefore urged that centres and health professionals who may have these prostheses, cease immediately its implementation ”.

– Continued explaining that people who carry mammary prosthesis should check card of implantation or clinical report they received at the time of the intervention, if their prosthesis corresponded to the prosthesis IMPLANT POLY (PIP). If this were the case, or if you have any doubt, should be appointment Center which practiced the intervention, or with the corresponding surgeon to plan a correct follow-up ”.

In this sense, the SECPRE advises that:

-the SECPRE has indicated to all its members to follow the directions of the Ministry of health, Social Affairs and equality, and in particular, the Spanish Agency of medicines and products health.

-In this sense, they advise patients carriers of this type of prosthesis who come to your plastic surgeon, who will carry out them a review of the State of the same.
