La Fundación Atlético de Madrid organized a concert for the benefit of the biomedical Foundation of the child Jesus Hospital.

Spain, February 2012. In collaboration with the Fundación Sandra Ibarra, the Atletico Madrid Foundation has organized a concert to give the I Scholarship Foundation Atlético de Madrid on research on childhood cancer. The fundraising will be invested in projects that are coordinating from the service of Onco-Hematology del Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús. The objective is also raising public awareness and involve commitment against cancer, and in particular, the childhood cancer.

Embraced in concert against cancer ” is the motto of this solidarity musical event that will take place today at the Calderón Theatre in Madrid. The music of artists like Manu Tenorio, Diana Navarro, Melocos, Natalia, Robert Ramíerez, Shara, Diego Martín Kiko Gabiño or Lya shall be heard during 120 minutes.

With this initiative the Atletico Madrid Foundation is launching a project that was born with vocation of continuity. Under the motto our commitment are the people , the club wants to emphasise that solidarity is not in crisis or is temporary.

It is not the first time these foundations to collaborate with this pediatric hospital. The official calendar of the past year was counted with the participation of patients of the Center and in the year 2010 in the awards A Team for the World recognized the work of the Onco-haematology service of the Hospital.

Onco-haematology service of the Hospital child Jesus

With 35 beds for hospitalization, eight posts in the day Hospital and trying to 100 new cases a year, this hospital pediatric onco-hematology service is one of the largest European services in this specialty. Accredited by the Ministry of health, through the CSUR, (Committee of designation of centres and services reference units) to make childhood allogeneic transplants, is one of the hospitals of Spain that performs more hematopoietic transplantation each year.

The onco-hematology of the Hospital service research laboratory is dedicated to both research and processes related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, mostly to hematopoietic transplantation. It also has a white room, with accredited GMP (good manufacturing practices according to international quality standards), approved by the Spanish medicines agency, to carry out cellular and gene therapy.

With more than 10 projects underway, its lines of research focus on translational study of the biology of stem cells mesenchymal and hematopoietic, childhood solid tumors, leukemia acute linfobástica, anemia, Fanconi (rare disease from the scope of the onco-hematology) and parents hematopoietic transplantationalways in pediatric patients. All these projects are managed by the Foundation for the biomedical research of children’s University Hospital baby Jesus and its design and implementation is possible thanks to the funding it receives from public entities
