Torrevieja, April of 2013- the Hospital of Torrevieja has addressed, in its third annual clinical meeting, treatment of fractures in childhood and in the attention of them, due to morphological characteristics and pathophysiological children’s conditions.

The Dres. José or. Sous Sánchez, Damián Jover Mendiola and Clara E. Cobo Cervantes of orthopedic surgery and Traumatology service participated in a session attended by around fifty professionals and in which issues related to trauma treatment of these fractures with the existing particularities were exposed.

Traffic accidents and the participation of children in extreme sports, with demand increasing in its preparation, makes that the incidence of fractures and other injuries of children continues to grow. Orthopedic surgeons from the Hospital of Torrevieja specialists expose the most fractures occur in two age groups; between 6 and 11 years of age and older than 11 years, representing between the two 82% of fractures. Children’s fractures in children are more frequent in girls with an incidence of 66% and 34%, respectively.

On the other hand, Physeal fractures are the most serious and represent 15-20% of all fractures. Fractures of the upper limb are three times more frequent than those of the lower member. For his part, fractures of the forearm and hand represent 50% of all fractures.

Experts say that the principles on which is based the treatment of children’s fractures differ from the adult. They are conditioned by traits morphofunctional of child growth and development, the pathologic structure and vascularization of the child bone peculiarities and its huge capacity of regeneration and self-correction of certain residual displacements.

In short, children’s fractures have their own morphological and pathophysiological that determine its peculiarity in the natural history and the need for specific treatments.

This type of session are intended to enhance and stimulate the concept quality ” care, research and teaching, level through the customization in the assistance provided to the patients. Jointly, will take place the presentation of a clinical case which will encourage knowledge and exchange of experiences among professionals concerned.

In 2013, the Hospital of Torrevieja boasts a broad teaching program aimed at all professionals, through General clinical sessions, sessions specialty, MIR, session of nursing sessions and other educational tools. General sessions are efforts to achieve healthcare excellence encouraging study and research, essential values in a Center with educational accreditation as the Hospital of Torrevieja.

Session lifecycle occurs under a format of open assistance involving all services of the Department of health Torrevieja, bringing cases or topics of interest general or multidisciplinary that they represent an overall improvement in the training and in the day-to-day care of professionals.

Throughout this academic year 2013, clinical sessions will take place on the last Wednesday of each month and will be the own teaching Commission reward the best clinical case exposed throughout the year.
