Madrid, April of 2013- ideal part of the Hospital Universitari Vall D’hebron, was held on March 27, the day about the patient safety in hospitals, organized by Áliad and the Spanish Association of management of health risks, where more than 300 professionals gathered to learn about innovations and advances in safety of the patient, a key issue in the health care field and a priority of health systems, as well as a right of patients recognized by different international bodies. Unwanted damage to sanitary treatments are, in some countries, the Fifth cause of death even at times ahead of traffic accidents. These deaths are largely preventable and professionals demand greater social awareness and invest in prevention. Recent advances have been treated on this day, exemplary experiences have been examined and listened to experts whose authoritative voice shows the path that must be followed. In recent years, there has been progress and is expected to move much more.

The table of opening counted with the Presidency of Dr. Josep Davins, Deputy Director-general of health services of the Department of health, who spoke of the commitment of Catalonia with this issue, both in primary care such as hospital, with initiatives such as the Alliance holds the safety of patients or the various initiatives of the Health Plan 2011-2015. then, Dr. Fernando Álava, head service of promotion of the safety of the patient of the direction General of management and health regulation of the Department of health, explained the innovative project of the functional units of patient safety in the public utilization hospital networkthey have joined that all of its 69 hospitals. Project principally includes a common management model based on EFQM and a very comprehensive computer tool of notification of incidents, all promoting safety culture and measuring up to 80 indicators that the centres can share. The success of this project is based, above all, the illusion with which professionals have joined it and allow spectacular advances in patient safety outcomes.

Experiences in patient safety

At the Roundtable, moderated by Dr. Aranaz on behalf of the President of AEGRIS, Dr. José María Ruiz Ortega, different experiences in patient safety had been discussed: first, the known project confidence of safety of the patient of Áliad, presented by Mr. Julio González, Director General de Áliad, that offers a very proven utility management solution to implement the patient safety; then, the experience of Anestalia, anesthesia service of the Teknon Hospital, explained by Dr. Josep Rodiera, Anestalia Socio-coordinador and Board member of the optional Teknon, based on an innovative software application for the clinical history of anesthesia, which prevents faults and attending anesthesiologists in his critical work; the experience of the Corachan clinic, explained by Dr. Jordi Garriga, and Ms. Nuria Cobalea, Deputy Medical Director, who said that the culture of safety creates safe hospitals; Finally, the experience of the Hospital Vall d’ Hebrón, host of attendees, reported by Dr. Roser Anglés, concerning safety of the patient, whose unit has been operating for many years with results of trend of increased improvement.

Finally the closing had the support of two representative employer associations: Mrs. Cristina Contel, President of the Associació Catalana d ’ Entitats de Salut, representative of the private sector, and Dr. Joan Mª Ferrer, de la Unió Catalana d ’ Hospitals, representative of the concerted centers. Dr. Ferrer alluded briefly to the important role of your organization for the safety of the patient in their hospitals and Ms. Contel stressed the importance international, and in particular in Europe, the safety of the patient, referred to directly by their participation as Spanish representative in the European Union of hospitals.
