Manila, 3 Dec (EFE).-the Ecuadorian Olga Alva has today been crowned Miss Earth and will reign for the next twelve months, after winning the international beauty pageant held in Manila and that presented representatives from 84 countries.

Alva, a degree in international business for 23 years and originally from Guayaquil, won at a gala in which the Latin beauty took over almost all the leading role, with three of the four posts of the end.

The Brazilian Driely Bennettone won second place and received the title of Miss Earth air, while the Venezuelan Caroline Medina was fourth and took the award for Miss Earth fire.

The Philippine Athena Imperial was third, with the title of Miss Earth water.

“Celebrating the forests for people” is the motto of this edition of the Miss Earth competition, created by the Philippine company Carousel to raise awareness about ecology and effects of climate change.

The Ecuadorian beauty, a passionate of the Asian culture that studied a year in China, and speaks Mandarin, succeeds Nicole Faria india, winner at the gala which took place a year ago in Viet Nam.

Alva introduced an ecological to protect the mangroves of Ecuador and has also become spokesman for the protection of the natural reserve of the Yasuní in his country.

During the gala declared one of the questions of the jury that “education is the best solution for the environment because children are those who have to preserve the Earth for future generations”.

The winner will receive $20,000, plus other prizes, and will become spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) programme. EFE
