Madrid, July of 2011- the Spanish society of infectious diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC)that brings together the vast majority of clinical microbiologists and infectious disease specialists Spaniards announces the appointment of Dr. Alvaro Pascual as new Chairman of the scientific society.

Dr. Pascual is currently Professor of Microbiology at the University of Seville and Director of the unit of Microbiology clinic of the Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena of Sevilla. He carried out his professional training at the University of Seville and at the universities of Utrecht (Netherlands, 1983-84), Minnesota (USA, 1986) and North Carolina (USA, 1998-99).

His main areas of research are the resistance to antibiotics and the epidemiology of infections by Multiresistant bacteria. He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications in journals of high scientific level and he has led numerous collaborative research projects at national and international levels. He is currently the editor-jefe of the journal of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology, magazine leader in Spanish in the field of infectious diseases.

The SEIMC

The Spanish society of infectious diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) is a scientific society that brings together professionals working in the field of Infectious Pathology, both from a clinical point of view the etiologic diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious processes.

The fundamental purpose of the SEIMC is the promote, encourage and disseminate the study and research of infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, in terms of epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control is concerned, as well as in their interrelations.

Currently with more than 2,360 partners, more than 1,500 correspond to the section of clinical microbiology and about 1,150 to that of diseases infectious.
