La Fundación CIEN and the CIBERNED, designated centres of excellence by the European Union.

by its critical mass and its endowments more innovative.

-es Spanish the structure of participation in the joint programme for neurodegenerative diseases (JPND), within the project network centres of excellence

– designation allowed share resources with the most prestigious international research centres in these pathologies

Madrid, January 2012- the Center for biomedical research in neurodegenerative diseases network (CIBERNED) and the research unitón project Alzheimer (UIPA), created by the Fundación Reina Sofía and managed by the Foundation Research Center of neurological diseases (hundred), dependent of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) agencies, they have been accepted in the international network of excellence centres in the investigation of disease neurodegenerative (CoEN)an international initiative set up to combine efforts and promote research on these diseases.

Thus the ISCIII through these entities (one hundred and CIBERNED) within the joint programme for neurodegenerative diseases (Joint Programming Neurodegenerative Diseases (JPND), joined the international network of excellence centers in research on Neurodegeneration (CoEN).) The CIBERNED, with more than 500 researchers, will provide the largest Spanish network of experts in these pathologies from research groups in universities, OPIS (CSIC and ISCIII) and hospitals of the national health system. The hundred Foundation will make available to the European programme its excellent infrastructure with the latest technological and technical (image and brains of the UIPA Bank platforms).

The incorporation of the CIBERNED and the Foundation for the international network of centres of excellence, (following the guidelines of the JPND), a hundred will allow both agencies share resources with international centres of CoEN, access to new means of financing of research projects in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, and exchange information and progress with the most important international research centers in this field, including: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research of Canada, the Deutsche Zentrum für Nerodegenerative Erkrankungen in Germany, the Medical Research Council of United Kingdom, the Flanders Institute of Biotechnology of BelgiumHealth Research Board of Ireland and Ministry Della Salute of Italy.

The CIBERNED has been chosen by its broad critical mass of researchers dedicated to advancing the knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases, as it comprises 58 groups of research which, distributed by any Spain, they make up more than 500 researchers with a common goal: fighting the Neurodegeneration. additionthe original approach of the CIBERNED as agency network fully agrees with the collaborative philosophy network CoEN and the JPND.

Innovative equipment

For its part, the choice of the hundred Foundation, entity that manages to CIBERNED, and the unity of research the project Alzheimer (UIPA) created by the Foundation Reina Sofia in collaboration with the ISCIII responds to technological criteria and services platform. Its innovative facilities boast the latest technological advances for research in neurodegenerative diseases. Stresses its neuroimaging Department, which has a team of last generation magnetic resonance (3 Tesla) and the tissue bank of hundred Foundation (BT-100) oriented mainly to Bank of brains.

Share resources

The network CoEN was born in June 2010, the initiative of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Deutsche Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen and Medical Research Council, but have been gradually incorporated new centers of research. CoEN is conceived as a collaborative entity through which promote access to economic resources to fund innovative research projectslarger scale and scope, on neurodegenerative diseases. In this sense, its main objective to promote the advancement of knowledge about this type of pathologies, including its origin, natural history and the development of new strategies diagnostic and therapeutic.

On the CIBERNED

The Center for research in biomedicine in network diseases neurodegenerative (CIBERNED) is one of the centers of reference in Spain in research on neurodegenerative diseases (END), such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington, and other ataxias and neuromuscular diseases. Created in 2006, its main purpose is encourage basic biomedical research, clinical research and the epidemiological as well as promote research in the laboratories can materialize and reach the patient (translational research).

It is legally organized as a public Consortium where they participate various institutions representing the General State administration, the autonomous communities and other not institutional e includes a total of 58 Spanish research groups who share a common goal: combat Neurodegeneration ”.

Funds managed by the CIBERNED come mainly from the State, specifically the Ministry of economy and competitiveness, who channelled them through the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. However, CIBERNED has the power to be able to attract other resources from foundations and/or funding of research. addition of basic and clinical research, the CIBERNED is intended to promote the science of quality and make the society involved in its efforts to reduce the negative impact of the Neurodegeneration.

On the Foundation 100%

The Foundation Research Center of neurological diseases (Fundación CIEN) is a foundation of the public sector, field and competition State, under the Ministry of economy and competitiveness through the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

As well as integrating since 2006 Alzheimer unit research of the project’s (Fundación CIEN-UIPA), promoted by the Foundation Queen Sofia, 100 Foundation also power its investigative role managing and coordinating the CIBERNED (Centre for biomedical research in neurodegenerative diseases network) from the same year. In this regard, through the hundred Foundation is it channelled and articulated today, most of the research on neurodegenerative diseases that is underway in Spain by more than over 360 researchers integrated in the hundred-UIPA Foundation and the CIBERNED.
