The Alliance international organizations of patients who requests that you place patients at the Centre of its work programme.

-the biggest challenge today, and in the near future, health care is the management of non-communicable chronic diseases

Madrid, January 2013.-La Fundación Lovexair endorses and supports the request made by the International Alliance of organizations of patients (PASATEE) to the World Health Organization (who) to place the patient at the Centre of its twelfth General program of Work (GPW12).

For Shane Fitch, President of the Lovexair Foundation, the integration of patient-centred healthcare is essential to successfully address the realities – political, economic and social, that underpin global public health. A patient-centred approach encourages individual participation of patients who stick to their treatments, make changes in behavior and self-management, while ensuring that health systems are designed to meet the global needs of patients rather than focusing only on the disease ”.

In this line was the message of the intervention made by Jo Groves, director general IAPO, in the session 132nd of the Executive Board of the who in Geneva, Switzerland.

“PASATEE undertakes to collaborate with the who so that all peoples attain the highest possible level of health. PASATEE congratulates who on the development of a comprehensive programme of work with a declared aim of achieving the highest possible level of health for all peoples, as a fundamental right. However, the biggest challenge today, and in the near future, is the management of communicable chronic (not), and this requires a cross-cutting approach. The current focus is on only four non-communicable diseases and their common risk factors. This prevents develop a system of effective response to the range of chronic diseases affecting patients around the world. Many disease categories, including for example, mental, neuromuscular, and immunological development, disorders do not have recognition at the national level, despite the need for specific policies and action plans, since they do not receive attention at the global level.

PASATEE believes that the project of GPW12 would be much more effective if focus more in direct patient care and the participation of the patient. PASATEE undertakes to collaborate with the who at:

-facilitate participation among the organizations of patients, civil society organizations and communities with who and national authorities to ensure that policies reflect the needs of the patient and the caregiver, preferences and capabilities.

-development of standards, guidelines and indicators for the implementation of health care focused on the patient.

-compilation of models and case studies of good practice in areas that include the participation of the patient.

-identify how to measure and monitor the effective participation and commitment to the global health.
