Jerusalem, 23 feb ( EFE).-the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) supplied today with 150,000 liters of industrial diesel to hospitals in Gaza so they can keep their services despite the shortage of fuel in the Strip since last week.

“Fuel help 13 public hospitals to maintain essential health services during the next 10 days,” said the ICRC in a statement.

According to Irfan Sulejmani, head of his Office in Gaza, “the lack of fuel restricts the operation of vital services, especially hospitals”, in an area inhabited by around a million and a half people.

“Without this supply, treating thousands of patients can be interrupted and their lives would be in danger,” adds.

The Strip suffers a noticeable shortage of fuel because the Government of the Islamist movement Hamas ceased buy earlier this year to Israel and became dependent on which private individuals replaced it from Egypt through the tunnels of Rafah, cheaper than the previous.

The last week, the only electrical plant of the Strip was discontinued when the supply of smuggling was interrupted, and hospitals, according to the statement of the ICRC, depend on for 18 hours a day of electrical generators.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also urged the Hamas Government to “take the necessary measures to solve the problem of scarcity”.
