la SEGO supports the scientific of the SEC report and informed the Ministry of health, the emergency contraception is a secure method

Spain, March 2012.- the document on emergency contraception, produced by the Spanish society of contraception (SEC) has been assumed by the Spanish society of Gynecology and obstetrics (SEGO)that has provided it in response to the request for information of the Minister of health, social services and equality, Ana Mato. The SEC acts as section of the SEGO contraception.

In early February of this year, the Minister commissioned a report scientific on the pill the day after regulatory situation in the rest of Europe and intended, at the same time, know the effects can cause in women who consumeespecially in the young.

The request for the report sent to the Spanish Agency of medicines and health products (AEMPS), the College medical organisation (WTO) and the Spanish society of Gynecology and obstetrics (SEGO).

In its reply, already submitted to the Ministry, the President of the SEGO, Professor José Maria Lailla Vicens, points out that the document on this subject elaborated the Spanish society of contraception endorses. Considered of special interest the need for adequate, sexual training emphasizing that urgency or the day after pill contraception is a method of second contraceptive option.

The SEC report stresses that there is no scientific evidence of a direct action at the level of implantation of the fertilized egg. That is, reject the frequent claims that allude to a (delete non-existent) abortifacient nature or the pill the day after antiimplantatorio.

The documentation provided to the Minister ensures that security in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies will increase with proper training and facilitating access to the morning-after pill.

More security in the prevention of pregnancies

Similarly, the SEGO endorses the statement signed by the SEC rejecting the pill the day after d’origine important side effects, even if ingested in short intervals.

The report, therefore, shows, based on scientific studies and the national survey prepared, at the request of the SEC, SigmaDos last summer, than the pill used in emergency contraception is not abortion, nor produces no side effects of relevance. However, increases security in the prevention of pregnancies and is an estimable method of second option. Likewise, it states that the use made of it by Spanish women is, in general, adequate to its indication as emergency contraception.
