Port-au-Prince, 3 Apr (EFE).-cases of cholera are have escalated in several departments of Haiti in recent days by the arrival of the rainy season, according to the UN Office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA, for its acronym in English) said today in Port-au-Prince.

In a statement reproduced by local digital media, the Agency warned of the rise in cases of cholera in the Artibonite, Northwest and West departments.

Also recalled that Haitian health authorities say that since last March there have been 77 new cases of the disease.

OCHA unveiled, which according to estimates by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) more of 200,000 Haitians could Moreover, contracting the disease this year.

According to this information, the resurgence of infections observed in late March coincides with the arrival of the rains which will be extended until June.
