Washington, 9 sep (EFE).-the American space agency NASA postponed today, for a second day, the launch of its new mission to the Moon, GRAIL, so its engineers investigate a possible problem with the rocket that will be the twin to the space probes

The GRAIL mission, an acronym in English of “Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory”, which it is intended to measure the gravitational field of the Moon, it was scheduled to be released yesterday, Thursday.

Because of strong winds around the platform’s launch in Cape Canaveral, Florida, NASA postponed it 24 hours, and later announced it had detected a bug in the system of rocket propellant Delta 2.

According to NASA, the launch will not happen before tomorrow, Saturday, when there will be two periods conducive to ensure that you exit, at 12: 29 GMT and at 13: 08 GMT.

The Agency indicated that their meteorologists predict a 60 percent chance of favorable conditions for the launch.

However, there is a period of 42 days to launch the mission, which started to run on Thursday and will conclude the next 19 of October.

The mission, consisting of two probes that will provide images in x-rays of the cortex and the nucleus of the Moon, will help to learn more about the structure that lies under the surface of the star, its composition and its history thermal.

Thus, measures that will take the GRAIL will contribute to better understand the relationship between the Earth and its satellite, NASA could improve their estimates when he decided to return to send a manned to the moon.

Two probes GRAIL did not reach the vicinity of the Moon until the end of this year or early next, depending on when to succeed finally launch.

The mission will end at the beginning of June 2012, when both probes end up crashing against the surface of the moon. EFE
