Logroño, 2011-December the Hall of acts of the school officer of doctors of La Rioja (c / Ruavieja, no. 67-69), hosted, on Thursday 24 November, from 16,00 hours the day II of the Riojan society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, entity which brings together about one hundred professionals from different health disciplines related with attention to older persons.

During the meeting addressed issues related to bioethics in the elderly; pain in the elderly terminal; dementia in advanced stages; better palliative care for older persons; or care in the duel in geriatric patients and their caregivers. The seminar, which was closed to 20,00 hours, by the Minister of health and social services of Rioja, José Ignacio Nieto, has been moderated by the Geriatrics Dr. Fernando Martín Ciancas, President of the Riojan society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SRGG) and director of the Centro Sociosanitario Viamed Los Jasmine de Haro; and by Dr. Jesús Pérez Muñoz, geriatrics of SIRS and Vice-President of the company.

Specialists of the Riojan service of health as the Fco oncologist also participated. Javier Cevas Chopitea or Geriatrics Raquel Pérez Zuazo and specialists in geriatrics of communities adjacent to La Rioja as the Basque country and Navarre.

La Rioja society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SRGG) is a body which brings together about one hundred professionals from different health disciplines related with attention to older persons. Its main goal is the facilitate the work of those people who are dedicated to take care of the integral health (physical, psychological, functional and social) of the elderly.

The objectives of the Riojan society of Geriatrics and Gerontology focusing on grouping practitioners who study and work in the field of senior citizens, promote actions aimed at improving the quality of life of this group, advising and supporting agencies and institutions dealing with social and health problems of old age and design systems of care and training in Geriatríand Gerontology.

To carry out this ambitious project the Riojan society of Geriatrics and Gerontology has designed a multidisciplinary structure, in which integrate medical, nurses, auxiliary clinic/gerocultores, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, architects, etc.

Under the premises of participation and freedom of opinion of the partners, it also fosters collaboration with other scientific societies and associations of older people.
