Andalusia, February 2012. Two dozen researchers improve their techniques in therapies advanced to the first international master in manufacturing of medicinal products in advanced therapies organized by the Ministry of health through the Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies and by the University of Granada. This training programme, with the sponsorship of the Spain genome Foundation, will offer professionals to develop their work in the field of health research a theoretical and practical expertise in the field of the manufacture of medicinal products for gene therapy, cell therapy and tissue engineering.

Participating students are professionals who develop their activity or want to develop in the field of advanced therapies. With regard to their geographical origin, about 60% of those enrolled are Andalusian researchers who have been awarded between 50% and 100% of the total amount, depending on if they already have a direct link with any GMP laboratory of the manufacturer of this type of medicine community. The remaining 40% comes from other autonomous communities and various European countries, such as Finland and Germany.

This training programme includes the supply of a master with three different degrees of specialization: address technical, responsible production and responsible in quality control. In addition, has been offered a course of expert in quality assurance. Funded by the Ministry of health and with the sponsorship of the Spain genome Foundation, the international master in manufacturing of medicinal products in advanced therapies will take place until next month of December. The programme provides a theoretical phase online, divided into eleven modules and other practice will be developed in the advanced multifunctional complex of simulation and technological innovation (CMAT) of Granada, which has a GMP laboratory that accurately recreates the real conditions of manufacturing of medicinal products for advanced therapies. Linked to the production of medicines on cell biology and genetics concepts will be taught throughout the academic year. The Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies is an initiative of the Ministry of health with the collaboration of the Ministry of economy, innovation and science. The development of lines of research in this field has allowed that, currently, there are 17 clinical trials in cell therapy and tissue engineering in different stages of development within the health Andalusian in fields such as Immunology, cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, ophthalmology, hematology, Gastroenterology, and vascular peripheral.
