Twenty researchers improve their techniques in advanced to the first international master therapies.

the Ministry of health has scholarship to 62% of participating students will form in manufacture of medicines on cell therapy.

Andalusia, February 2012. Two dozen researchers improve their techniques in therapies advanced to the first international master in manufacturing of medicinal products in advanced therapies organized by the Ministry of health through the Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies and by the University of Granada. This training programme, with the sponsorship of the Spain genome Foundation, will offer professionals to develop their work in the field of health research a theoretical and practical expertise in the field of the manufacture of medicinal products for gene therapy, cell therapy and tissue engineering.

Participating students are professionals who develop their activity or want to develop in the field of advanced therapies. With regard to their geographical origin, about 60% of those enrolled are Andalusian researchers who have been awarded between 50% and 100% of the total amount, depending on if they already have a direct link with any GMP laboratory of the manufacturer of this type of medicine community. The remaining 40% comes from other autonomous communities and various European countries, such as Finland and Germany.

This training programme includes the supply of a master with three different degrees of specialization: address technical, responsible production and responsible in quality control. In addition, has been offered a course of expert in quality assurance. The title of head of quality control is that has been more successful. 28% Of the registered has chosen this field of specialization while 22% focus this training programme towards the title of head of production. Acceptance of other specializations, responsible for warranty and technical director, has been similar. Finally, 17% of the participants opted to perform independent of each of the specializations modules.

Funded by the Ministry of health and with the sponsorship of the Spain genome Foundation, the international master in manufacturing of medicinal products in advanced therapies will take place until next month of December. The programme provides a theoretical phase online, divided into eleven modules and other practice will be developed in the advanced multifunctional complex of simulation and technological innovation (CMAT) of Granada, which has a GMP laboratory that accurately recreates the real conditions of manufacturing of medicinal products for advanced therapies. In addition, next on 28 and 29 June will be held in Granada an international symposium that can assist both master’s students and professionals interested in the field of advanced therapies.

Linked to the production of medicines on cell biology and genetics concepts will be taught throughout the academic year. Also emphasis on the European legislative framework of clinical trials, environmental controls and validations of installations and equipment, in addition to pharmaceutical quality systems applied to the manufacture of therapies advanced among other content. In order that the training programme is more appropriate has counted with the collaboration of a team of experts include members of the Committee on therapy advanced from the European Medicines Agency, pioneers of the cell, gene therapy and tissue engineering, intellectual property experts and representatives of companies involved in the sector.

Bet by advanced health therapies

The Andalusian initiative in advanced therapies is an initiative of the Ministry of health with the collaboration of the Ministry of economy, innovation and science. With its launch in March, Andalusia has established mechanisms to encourage the development and implementation of advanced therapies to give, in a coordinated manner and with the support of universities, pharmaceuticals, private companies, researchers and patients associations a qualitative placing research in health as a competitive element of the community.

The development of lines of research in this field has allowed that, currently, there are 17 clinical trials in cell therapy and tissue engineering in different stages of development within the health Andalusian in fields such as Immunology, cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, ophthalmology, hematology, Gastroenterology, and vascular peripheral.

These actions is intended to situate to Andalusia in a leading position in the field of translational biomedical research, a field of activity that aims to find solutions to diseases which currently do not have them and that, at the same time, it forms part of the strategy of sustainable economySince investment in research works as an engine of economic and social development in Andalusia and its results, therefore, accrues citizenship.
