GERONA, 30 (EUROPA PRESS)

An outbreak of mumps affects 106 people of Girona since last December and is still active, which is why the Ministry of health of the Generalitat has recommended to return to vaccinate all persons vaccinated the MMR between 1994 and 1996.

According to a release, the second half of December 2011, primary care of Girona reported three cases of parodititis, and later appeared during January, February and March 2012.

106 Cases detected are evolving favourably, and the regions where there have been more cases are Gironès and Baix Empordà and Selva, although also seen others in this health region.

The Department recommends return to vaccinate, as a measure of control to possible new cases, those people in the Girona area in which there has been affected, that between 1994 and 1996 they vaccinated the first dose of the MMR, which contained the Rubini strain for the prevention of the parodititis.

Primary care centers, which have already received the doses of vaccines are informing people who recommends the vaccination.

50% Of the cases detected in the demarcation of Girona have occurred among young people from 16 to 18 years, although mostly mumps can affect adolescents and young adults between 17 and 42 years.
