-Takeda again convene in Spain the 2012 Takeda Awards, second edition of its competition of clinical cases of patients with osteoporosis. The pharmaceutical has once again in this initiative with the support and collaboration of the Spanish society of rehabilitation and physical medicine (SERMEF) and Postgraduate Institute for medicine and health (IPEM)

Madrid, may 2012.- Takeda, company that sells Preotact — only complete chain parathyroid hormonePTH (1-84) – launches the II contest of clinical cases of patients with Osteoporosis.

This competition aims to reward innovation, originality, rigor and scientific quality of the work submitted medical specialists in rehabilitation and physical medicine, relating to clinical cases of osteoporóticos patients at high risk of fracture and/or osteoporotic fracture.

For specialists, this contest was an opportunity to scientifically document their experience in their daily work with patients osteoporóticos, providing new information on the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

As a novelty, this year the MIR may also submit their work, and can qualify for the award especially designed for them.

Also, “women over 45 years old stay longer in the hospital from the osteoporosis than by any other disease, including diabetes, myocardial infarction and breast cancer”.

In Spain, approximately two million women have osteoporosis, with a prevalence of 26.1% in those that already reach age 50.

Each year occur 25,000 fractures, in economic terms implying State 126 million euros in direct costs and indirect 420 million.

In percentage of mortality, 13% of patients who have suffered a fracture die after three months and this figure increases to 38% after 24 months.
