Bogota, April 2012.- in 2011, according to figures published by the National Institute of health, 495 Colombian lost their lives due to complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. The figure represents an increase of 23% over the previous year (2010), were killed when 403 women and is one of the highest recorded since 2005, period in which died 456 mothers.

The situation is of concern to the representatives of the Colombian Federation of obstetrics and gynaecology (Fecolsog), who warn that more than 90% of the deaths could be prevented if you take measures to improve women’s access to health services and increase the security of care.
