Pamplona, June 2012.- only one of every ten children and adolescents in Spain who suffer from attention Deficit and Hiperatividad (ADHD) disorder receive medication for treatment, when the prevalence is 5-8% in these two segments of the population. I.e. Spain treatment rates are 10 times less than what it should be from the prevalence figures.

These assessments have been offered by Dr. Javier Royo, psychiatrist from the Mental Health Nativity Infanto-Juvenil day Hospital, and Drs.. Azucena ten and Cesar Soutullo, the unit of child psychiatry and adolescent of the Department of Psychiatry and medical psychology at the University Clinic of Navarra.

Experts have offered these assessments during the course of VI update day in child psychiatry and teenager who was held last Friday in the Palacio de Congresos and Auditorium of Navarra – bastion-(Pamplona) in which more than 70 experts in mental health have exposed the key developments in the treatment of the disorder Attention Deficit and hyperactivity (ADHD) VI Update day in adolescent and child psychiatry.

During the event, Prof. Sonuga-Barke, prestigious psychologist of the universities of Southampton (United Kingdom) and Ghent (Belgium) explained that theories that emphasize more emotional or motivational aspects of ADHD among the theory of aversion to the delay in the reward.

The results of this theory are the result of studies carried out by the psychologist and his group demonstrated that children with ADHD have difficulty to work properly for long periods of time and to wait for rewards or incentives that motivate them.

For its part, navarro psychologist Javier Tirapu, national award of the National Consortium of Neuropsychology in 2011 clinical neuroscience, has released a model inclusive of Executive dysfunction in ADHD.
