the Committee 1 December launches a contest of microfiction and short films to commemorate 30 years of the pandemic

it is estimated there are about 150,000 people living with HIV in the Spanish State. In addition, the Committee recalls that in the world, three out of every 10 countries still do not have laws pursuing discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS.

Spain, 2011-September on December 1, 2011 marks 30 years since first diagnosed with HIV. It is estimated that 25 million people worldwide have died since then due to the disease, but there has been progress: today 33 million people living with HIV or AIDS. Behind the figures there are real stories of life and overcoming, and the Committee December 1 wants you tell them.

This is the proposal of the competitions of microfiction and short videos “30 years, 30 lines” and “30 years, 30 seconds”, 1 ° of Diciembre-Plataforma Committee of NGOs of HIV and AIDS in Catalonia, calls on the occasion of this anniversary, with the support of the Health Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council.

The literary and audiovisual creations can be sent until the 1 November of this year. A jury composed of persons of the world of culture, NGOs to respond to HIV and AIDS and the own Committee 1 December will choose award-winning works. They will serve to raise awareness and promote solidarity with people living with HIV and may be used as material for the dissemination of the activities of the Committee 1 December.

It is estimated that there are about 45,000 people living with HIV, and in the Spanish State a total of 150,000 in Catalonia. The Committee December 1 is the only platform of NGOs working in responding to HIV and AIDS in Catalonia, performing tasks of prevention, clinical care and social care.

On the other hand, the Committee 1 December recalls that at the global level, three out of every ten countries have no laws pursuing discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS. As regards the percentage of women affected by HIV, this amounted to 51 per cent, a percentage which rises up to 60% in sub-Saharan Africa. Not in vain, explains the Committee December 1, “the population young and adolescent affective-sexual education and the promotion of gender equality are essential axes to prevent HIV and AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections”.
