Barcelona, October 2009.- The prestigious internist Maciej Andrzej Wojtczak, an expert in medical education, entered on Wednesday as corresponding foreign national academic of the Real Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (ADRS). At the same meeting, he also received the oncologist Josep Ramon Germà and ophthalmologist Josep M. Nadal as corresponding members.

Maciej Andrzej Wojtczak: “ Medical Education in a Globalized World ” (medical education in a globalized world)

Maciej Andrzej Wojtczak is Professor of the School of Public Health and Social Medicine of Poland. He has held various academic and clinical positions in Poland, Japan and United States. It has also been charges relating to public health and health administration, both at the national level (Ministry of health and Social Welfare of Poland) and international (World Health Organization). Stresses its role in European and global development of medical education in the fields. It is an honorary member of the Polish Medical Alliance and the Association of Medical Schools in Europe, among others.

Dr. Wojtczak was introduced by the tenured academic Josep Carreras. In his speech, he explained how he has changed medical education. In today’s global world, also the medicine is part of a global community, he said, but there is a concept shared about what is the role of the doctor, there is no consensus on medical education.

Education standards should rest on two pillars: standards processes, focusing on educational resources and procedures; and the standards of competence, which analyzed what students expect from studies and how these expectations are achieved. The latter tends to be little Treaty and “ the problem is that the process standards do not ensure that the student becomes a competent professional ”, said the new academic, because, for example, they have into account ethics. Josep Ramon Germà ·: “ the Darwinian evolution of cancer ”
