Alicante, March 2012.- last Saturday have known the names of the top three winners of the grants for innovation in health by the year 2012: health care for the chronic patient ” ESTEVE attaches to the projects more innovative in the field of the chronicity. Becadas three proposals have been chosen among the 89 projects presented in this first edition, from 20 different professional categories, and receive a highest level strength of 10,000 euros to help carry them out to improve the care of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases. The awards ceremony has taken place in the IV National Congress of health care to the chronic patient held in Alicante

passes the challenge of ensuring the sustainability of the health system, among other measures, to be able to cope with the rapid increase of patients with chronic diseases, a direct result of the progressive ageing of the population and better treatments. And one of the essential tools to achieve this is to foster innovation in health professionals.

With extensive experience in the most relevant areas of chronicity (cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, osteoarticular and nervous system), ESTEVE has convened the grants for innovation in health 2012: chronic patient health care ” to improve the quality of life of these patients and promote healthy lifestyle habits to contribute to the prevention of chronic diseasesby stimulating innovation of health professionals, encouraging participation among the different actors and levels of the system and promoting research, training and the management of knowledge in chronicity.

The maximum of 10,000 euros of these scholarships Endowment goes to help realize projects really innovative in the chronic patient care.

in the category of chronic patient of high complexity, innovation scholarship in health ESTEVE has been for the project model of forecasting and prediction of mortality for pluripatológicos patients in primary care in Andalusia: study PROFUND RURAL primary care in ” of the unit of clinical management (UGC) of Camas (Sevilla)directed by Pilar Bohórquez. Its objective is to develop a prognostic tool capable of predicting mortality or functional deterioration of the patient with multiple pathologies for primary care centres.

The second project selected in the category of chronic patient of average complexity has been submitted by the research unit, Osakidetza in Alava. The objective of compliance with preventive recommendations in primary care and rate of preventable hospitalizations for diabetes, congestive heart failure and COPD ”, directed by Philip Aizpuru, is to reduce unnecessary income of chronic patients in the hospital system precisely by these three diseases: diabetes, congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

In what refers to the third category, chronic patient of low complexity, innovation scholarship in health has been at the hands of CronicSalud ”, of the Institute of research health La Fe de Valencia. Directed by Bernardo Valdivieso Martinez, this proposal seeks to implement and validate a pilot program designed to improve care for chronic patients with asthma and high blood pressure taking advantage of ICT, to be sustainable and not increase the current healthcare burden of health professionals.

Las scholarships ESTEVE, a great success of call

The first edition of the grants for innovation in health ESTEVE has obtained a great answer by health professionals, with 89 projects submitted from up to 20 different professional categories.

In total, 40 projects have been received in the category of chronic patients of high complexity, 33 proposed in patients Crónicos of average complexity and 16 projects in the area led to the chronic patient of low complexity.

In the professional categories, 24 per cent of the projects have done primary care area and another 12 per cent of nursing. Third in the ranking have been the specialties of family medicine and internal medicine, each with 9% of the received projects, percentage for Psychiatry and public health has positioned itself in 5% and in neurology by 4%. There have also been proposals for specialities like ophthalmology, psychology, rehabilitation, orthopedic surgery and Traumatology and Rheumatology (COT/rheumatism), cardiology, digestive, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, anesthesia, oncology and engineering.
