– the lectures cover from the humanistic point of view subjects such as the role of the Red Cross of the sea rescues and shipwrecks, the biodiversity as a source of new drugs, the relationship between oceans and health, marketing of fish in the modern age or the contribution of the anisakis in the allergy to fish

– art exhibitions of painting and photography are also scheduled

Bilbao, 2012-February since 1973 the Academy of medical sciences of Bilbao (ACMB) launched the Humanities week there has been no any year that this scientific and cultural initiative has stopped extending its offer. Specifically, for this year, have scheduled a series of five conferences which will deal with medical topics from a point of view humanistic, which will be taught by renowned professionals in research, clinical care, and teaching. In addition, this year programming includes a few exhibitions of painting and photography, as well as a simulated aquatic rescue carried out by the Red Cross of Bizkaia. All these conferences are open to the public.

Both conferences and art exhibition will take place from Monday 6 to Friday 10 February Museum maritime estuary of Bilbao, located on the quay Ramón de la Sota, 1. The conferences will begin every day at 19: 00.

39TH week of humanistic activities is organized by the Academy of medical sciences of Bilbao with the collaboration of the University of the country Basque/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU) and the Museum Bilbao estuary maritime; and with the sponsorship of the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia and Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa.

Conference

The first of the meetings – Monday, February 6-, will be taught by Javier Zárraga, President of Cross Red Bizkaia under the title Red Cross in the salvage of shipwrecks sea ”. The Bureau will be moderate by Ricardo Franco Vicar, Secretary general of the ACMB. The same Monday at 1200 hours on the Esplanade of the Red Cross of Biscay Maritime Museum shall carry out a water rescue drill.

For its part, on Tuesday, February 7 the Vice-President of the ACMB, Valentin Achotegui and Antonio quarter dampened the Conference given by Carmen Cuevas, Director of r & d of PharmaMar, a subsidiary of the Zeltia group, and entitled the biodiversity as a source of new drugs ”. Not in vain, the sea is a source of resources to exploit, both in terms of energy, such as food or pharmaceutical.

On Wednesday, February 8, the Conference oceans and health ”, will be delivered by Manu Soto, Department of zoology and Animal cell biology of the Faculty of science and technology of the BASQUE country. The Bureau will be moderate by Elena strong, Vice President the ACMB biologist.

Furthermore, on Thursday, February 9, Francisco Luis Dehesa, veterinary Vice-President of the Academy of medical sciences of Bilbao and head of the Social Action of the City Council of Bilbao area, will offer a conference under the title marketing of fish in the modern age prior to the industrial revolution ” and moderated by the President of the ACMBJuan Ignacio Goiria. The Conference will focus on biomarkers at molecular, cellular and tissue levels in organisms (invertebrates and fish), sentinels that act as early indicators of pollution of the sea. These markers serve as alarm system administrations take corrective measures in order to prevent irreversible changes in human health.

The Humanities week concludes on Friday, February 10, with the talk contribution of the anisakis in allergy to fish ” taught by Maria Teresa Audicana, medical assistant of the allergy service of the University Hospital of Álava and moderated by him Secretary of ACMB, Gorka Pérez-Yarza.

More than one hundred years of history

The Academy of medical sciences of Bilbao is a centuries-old institution founded on January 19, 1895 in Bilbao and that throughout his career during the 19th centuries, 20th and 21st has counted with the participation and collaboration of the most distinguished doctors of the city. Since then, the Academy offers the possibility of making progress in the continuing education of professionals of health through the Organization of courses, workshops, symposiums, seminars and any kind of scientific meetings in which it elaborates on and debate about medical breakthroughs, integrating other medical and health disciplinessuch as pharmacy, biology, veterinary medicine and Odontology.
